Fenn Stable
Photographed for Modece Architects, Fen Stables is a new timber-framed home located on a remote fen-edge site in Suffolk. The design responds to floodplain conditions with two contrasting volumes: one grounded and solid, the other lightly elevated on piers and clad in brighter materials. This distinction is expressed through form, texture, and fenestration, and the photographs aim to capture this duality — between weight and lift, shelter and openness — as well as the building’s dialogue with the wide, open landscape.
Hawkedon
A rural infill plot near Bury St Edmunds, this home sits atop the softly undulating Suffolk landscape, commanding expansive views to the north and south. These vistas are carefully framed by a first-floor open-plan kitchen, living, and dining space, designed to draw the landscape into daily life through large, opposing apertures.
Top Sow Yard
Photographed for Modece Architects, Top Sow Yard is a sensitively restored former livestock pen, reimagined as a contemporary home. Captured for the 2022 RIBA Suffolk Awards, the series reflects the building’s quiet dialogue with its rural setting, nestling into the landscape with a restrained and crafted presence.
Fishing Lodge Footbridge
Photographed for Modece Architects and JP Chick & Partners, this green oak footbridge reinstates public access to the Grade II listed Fishing Lodge at the Food Museum in Stowmarket. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s self-supporting bridge sketch, the design features an arched span with radial struts, accommodating the site’s topography and preserving mature lime trees. The photographs highlight the bridge’s craftsmanship, its integration with the historic landscape, and its role in enhancing visitor accessibility.
